Davis Cup with a new format since 2019?
The International Tennis Federation has announced an ambitious plan for a completely new format for the Davis Cup tournament, which may take effect as early as 2019.
According to the changes, the Davis Cup matches will be held within one week of the monthNovember. There will be 18 countries. 16 of them will be ranked according to the rankings, and two will be selected additionally.
First teams will play a group stage, and then will be Quarterfinal playoffs. These eight teams automatically receive a seat in the next edition of the tournament. The changes only concern the elite division. The lower divisions will remain in their current format. Individual matches will include two single and one pair and will be played in two of three sets. Currently teams from the elite play from February to November, and each match mentioned by bestsportpredictions has four single and one pair. The project must be approved by two-thirds of the delegates of the General Assembly of the International Tennis Federation, to be held in Florida in the United States in August. The Davis Cup Tournament, an informal World Men`s Tennis Championship, has a 118-year history.
