Sport prediction Adam Silver: I`m disappointed Kyrie Irving didn`t offer an unconditional apology
NBA commissioner Adam Silver has issued an official statement over Brooklyn point guard Kyrie Irving`s failure to apologize for promoting the anti-Semitic film on social media.
Kyrie Irving made the reckless decision to post a link to a film containing deeply offensive anti-Semitic material.
We appreciate the fact that he agreed to work with Brooklyn and the Anti-Defamation League in the fight against anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination, but I am disappointed that he did not issue an unconditional apology, namely condemning the vile and dangerous content contained in the film, which hedecided to publish.
I will personally meet with Kairi next week to discuss this situation, " the statement said.
Earlier, Irving issued an official statement.
I oppose all forms of hatred and oppression and strongly support communities that are marginalized and influenced every day. I am aware of the negative impact of my fast on the Jewish community and I take responsibility for it. I do not believe that everything said in the documentary was true, these things do not reflect my morals and principles. I am a person who tries to learn in all areas of life, and I intend to do this with an open mind, with a willingness to listen. My family and I did not want to harm any group, race or religion, we only want to be a beacon of truth and light, " the player said in a statement.
Irving and the Nets also donated $500, 000 each to educational programs that will be aimed at combating all forms of anti-Semitism.
